INTRODUCTION
Communication can be defined as a two way process in which information is transmitted and received. It also involves feedback between the recipient and the transmitter information. Each information has their meaning in order to makes others understand the informations and thoughts we want to deliver to them and get an accurate response from that person via verbal communication or non verbal communication.

People in organisations typically spend over 75% of their time in an interpersonal situation. Physiotherapists interact even more with patients, spending up to 90% of their time and effort. So effective communication is an essential component of organisational success whether it is as the interpersonal, intergroup, intragroup, organisational, or external levels. This is because the care of patients involve many different individuals, all needing to share patient information and discuss their management.

According to the research evidence shows that there are strong positive relationships between healthcare team members’ communication skills and a patient’s ability to follow through with medical recommendations, self-manage a chronic medical condition and adopt preventive health behaviours. Patient prefers for receiving remote communication to improve adherence to exercise and physical activity recommendations from their physiotherapists. Thus, communication is essential for optimum treatment for patient.

Interactive communication is an exchange of information where involve both participants. It is a dynamic, two way flow if information. Trans active communication occurs when sources transmit messages to one another simultaneously and send back acknowledgement messages. Intentional communication is the display of communicative signals that are sensitive to the state of the receiver. Unintentional communication is the unconscious cues that provide information to another individual. It can be verbal or non verbal.

TYPES OF COMMUNICATION
During communication, it typically happens in one of three ways which is verbal, non verbal and visual.

Verbal communication is the most obvious of different types of communication. It is spoken word, either face to face or remotely. Oral communication maybe direct and personal and in which facial expression and gestures can be used to give impact. The advantage of verbal communication is message can be conveyed accurately and it’s disadvantage is more time will be consuming while we prepare its content.

General behaviour and attitudes are referred to as non-verbal communication. The tone of voice, gestures, listening, head nodding, facial expression, eye contact and the use of touch come under this category. Other forms of non-verbal communication include the body’s position and the angle at which one person interacts with one another. The non-verbal communication also includes written method. The advantage of writing method is the legality issues is record by handwriting but its disadvantage is its doesn’t guarantee that people will understand about it.

Visual communication includes signs, maps or drawings. These typically enhance verbal communication. Visual aids help a speaker remember important topics, attract the others attention and help convey the message but its disadvantage is it doesn’t guarantee the others will understand the message that the speaker want to convey.

WHY COMMUNICATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR OPTIMUM TREATMENT OF PATIENT ?
Effective communication protects patients from potential harm arising from misunderstandings. While communication failures this will lead to serious misunderstanding between physiotherapist and patient. Thus, the effective communication among physiotherapist and patient is a central clinical function in building a relationship and also important in delivery high quality health care.

Good communication between physiotherapist and patient will reduce malpractice risk. This is because according to the research evidence the majority of malpractice claims involve some communication gap between physiotherapist. This is because during having communication between physiotherapist and patient, those patient are not understand or misunderstanding what physiotherapist is talking about and causes the patient didn’t follow their instruction accurately. Thus, this causes the malpractice risk increases.

Effective communication between physiotherapist with patient also will improve patient’s adherence. This is because by engaging patients in the treatment discussion, patient can be more persevering to comply with the instructions from physiotherapist because they know more about their body condition and want to recover faster.

An effective communication shows the benefit of changed behaviour. By updating patients the right steps to rapid recovery their disease, better communication between physiotherapist and patient helps the patient recover faster. Patient will changed their stubborn behaviour because they want to recover more faster.

Good communication will helps patients feel relax. This is because when patient who need health care services to feel anxious about their health, about what treatment they might have to undergo. This can sometimes lead them to speak out their problem and what they worry. Having good communication with physiotherapist will reduce their anxiety .

Effective communication makes patients feel valued. The most precious thing that physiotherapist can give to the patient is their time. When physiotherapist show that they are prepared to lay aside all the other things and need to spend time with the patient, to listen them, get to know them and understand how they are feeling, physiotherapist need to show that they are really value that patient. Being able to communicate well helps physiotherapist achieve this with patients.

WAYS TO MAINTAIN COMMUNICATION AS THE ESSENTIAL FOR OPTIMUM TREATMENT OF PATIENT
Physiotherapist should use simple language during having communication with patient. This is because patients tend to trust on the healthcare professionals who use simple words or language that everyone can understand and are comfortable with. Using difficult medical terminologies with patients will not help gain trust and build confidence and neither will it amaze them. Keeping it simply by using non-medical language will provide better patient outcome and help build trust, which is a paramount factor in a physiotherapist-patient relationship.

Physiotherapist must communicate must be clearly when communicate with patient. During communication session between physiotherapist with a patient, nothing is as essential as precision. Physiotherapist should ask about the patient’s condition and how they are feeling from the beginning of the treatment and point everything that can be associated with their condition that they may not be able to explain.

Physiotherapist should understand non-verbal signs. Physiotherapist must not ask the patient whether they understand your message or not, because they may respond with a Yes, even if they do not understand. Physiotherapist should read the patient’s non verbal signs such as their facial or body expressions.
Physiotherapist have to listen carefully and empathising patient’s problem. This is important because this involves with giving them your attention and acknowledging any emotional cues in their history without judging them. Offering support and non judgemental advice encourage patients to convey theirs fear and depression, making them more receptive to treatment by reducing their anxiety.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, by communicating better with their patients, healthcare professionals should not only improve patient satisfaction, they should improve their own job satisfaction as well. Effective physiotherapy patient communication can be a source of motivation, reassurance, and support. Physiotherapist with better communication and interpersonal skills are able to detect patient’s problems earlier, this can lower medical fees, and can provide better treatment to their patients. This may lead to higher-quality outcomes and better satisfaction, lower costs of care, greater patient understanding of health issues, and better adherence to the treatment process. Finally, communication between physiotherapist and patients are importance. It should feature more in both graduate and postgraduate training, to become engraved as an essential skill and quality characteristic of each physiotherapist and these all will lead communication as the essential for optimum treatment of patient.
