1. translation. One of the main reasons

With the advent of technology in the field
of translation studies and particularly in the professional translation market,
there has been a considerable shift away from the traditional methods of
translation towards more advanced approaches. Translations are no more
delivered by methods such as handwriting on a piece of paper. In addition, as
the time goes by, there is less and less burden on the shoulders of the
translator to produce a quality translation. One of the main reasons for that
is the increasing role of technology in assisting the translator to create an
acceptable product. Like any other field and profession, technology is playing
an increasingly significant role in the creation of an accurate, fast and
satisfactory translation.

The impact of technology on the dynamics
of translation has been such that it has dominated the whole business of
translation from the beginning to the end. Nowadays, translation services are
not a brick and mortar business and they are mostly offered online in which a
translation agency receives a project from the client and sends the project to
the proper translator via the internet. The translator then uses various tools
like online dictionaries, machine translations and many other tools to deliver
the project. One of the most important and practical tools are
Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools which are the main focus of our

Today the role of these tools is becoming
increasingly important and the market is moving towards a place in which
translations are mostly delivered by using these tools. The impact of these
tools has grown more quickly on some countries than others, but all countries
are affected by them. This research aims to consider how these tools can help
the translators be more successful in the translation market. The main purpose
of this study is to examine the relationship between the adoption of CAT tools and
the success of professional translators in the translation market. This study
has defined the concept of success as containing three components, namely
employability, productivity and effort-to-reward ratio. In the subsequent
sections, these concepts will be defined and described more elaborately.

1.1 Research Background

the advancement of technology has created a phenomenon known as the
globalization, and has made communication much easier. Globalization has led to
a considerable increase in the amount of trade and transfer of knowledge
between groups of different backgrounds and cultures. Whether you want to sell
your products to a foreign culture or take advantage of the knowledge of other
countries, there is no tool other than translation that gets the job done. The
volume of translation has been increasing rapidly. In addition to the increase
in volume, translators
are more under pressure to deliver the best quality in a shorter period of
time. Therefore, due to the shift in these standards, translators and
translation agencies have no choice but to rely more and more reliant on
technology to perform their job.

The studies on the significance of
technology in translation studies and professional translation, have been both
numerous and diverse. There have been many studies which focus on the
pedagogical implications of technology in the translation studies. Some have
analyzed the impact of technology and specifically, CAT tools on the
translation process. However, this study is in line with studies such as
studies by Rodriguez-Castro (2011), Bachleiter/Wolf (2004), Helibron (2000),
Diriker (2004) that have chosen to focus on studying the effect of CAT tools on
the translator himself. They fall under the category of what Chesterman (2006)
Calls “Sociology of Translators” which will be elaborated on review of

This research also aims to extend the work
that has been done on previous studies, and intends to put this branch of study
in a new light and investigate the impact that CAT tools have on the success of
translators in their profession. By demonstrating the place of CAT tools in the
career of translators, more translators might be encouraged to invest time and
money on this particular skill and also, the academic community of translation
studies can Pay more attention to teaching the translators on CAT tools,
especially in the B.A term that focuses on translator training and providing a
better career for them in the future.

1.2 The Research

Despite the widespread attention to the
subject of technology and particularly, CAT tools, and also many studies that
have focused on the translator, there have been few studies that have
considered both in conjunction of one another.  Nowadays, CAT tools are no longer considered a
luxury anymore and have become an integral part of the translation process.
Therefore translators have to adopt these tools in order to remain competitive
in the market. So there needs to be a research that can at least give a view of
how CAT tools affect the productivity, employability and the effort-to-reward
ratio of translators, and by estimating the importance of these tools, it can
help the academic communities, particularly the B.A translator training
courses, to pay more attention to this area and prepare the translators for a
better career in the translation
